And here I thought it was only me who was avoiding / ignoring my voicemail.
WHEN Steve Hamrick left his last job as manager at a software corporation, he had at least 25 unheard messages in his office voice mailbox. And that’s not counting the unreturned calls on his cellphone or landline at home.
It’s not that he doesn’t like to talk. But with the cascade of messages he receives by e-mail, texting and on Facebook, Mr. Hamrick, 29, a self-described “voice mail phobic” from Cupertino, Calif., said he’d found better ways to keep in touch.
“I had to give up something and that, for me, was voice mail,” he said. “It’s cutting out some forms of communication to make room for the others.”

You know you’ve always wanted too do this….

I came across this very funny site today. It’s called Overheard in the Office: The Voice of the Cubicle. Stop by and read a few of the postings. You never know…these things could have come from the cube next door.
I’ve heard so many pundits and politicians calling people “tone deaf” lately that its actually getting quite ridiculous. I’m just waiting for Jon Stewart to do one of his classic editing jobs on this. I’d expect it to have a lead in of sirens blaring with some politico looking around dazed and confused.

Being sick really stinks, but getting sick when you’re a two hour car ride away from home at a friends house in the snowy Pocono Mountains and having to drive the whole way with your eyes burning and your sinus’ throbbing REALLY stinks.
Thought I’d share with you a blog that I came across with some very good resources for those of you who may be undertaking an online job search (thankfully I don’t find myself in this position).
Ramen Noodles, Rent and Resumes
Also, in my travels, I’ve found the latest Twitter microblogging craze does in fact have some utility. It seems that Twitter is being harnessed by some folks to both search, facilitate search and in fact, locate candidates for positions. I’ve assembled a short list of fellow tweeters whom, if you’re in the hunt, you may want to follow:

I just got a rather odd e-mail inviting me to a gather in London for Monocle Magazine to discuss smarter travel with travlers from around the world.
Dopplr and Monocle magazine invite you to the first “Where Next?” community event during London Design Week.
It’s an informal early evening gathering at Monocle’s head office to
discuss the coming world of smarter travel, with fellow travellers from
around the world.
Tuesday, September 16th at 5.30-7.30pm at Monocle
20 Boston Place, Marylebone
London NW1 6ER
The odd thing is that this was invite was done in partnership with Dopplr which, according to its own About page, is supposed to let me “…share your future travel plans privately with friends and colleague”. The odd thing is that I‘m not going to be in London on September 16th, nor have I been there yet this year, nor have I any plans to go there anytime soon. Is it just me or shouldn’t Dopplr have known this and simply not invited me? Seems odd that a service whose claim to fame was connecting people intelligently would leverage itself when sending out invitations to events that are about connecting people intelligently. I don’t know, maybe its just me.
Friends…lend me your eyes for a moment. While no one would argue that a technology blogger like Scoble, or myself for that matter, knows much about preparing for recessions, any more then we know what causes them in the first place. Be that as it may, Scoble has a pretty good post on how to prepare for one..some of the tips are personal and some are professional. In either case, my favorite is #17. It’s the post the keeps on giving.
Not sure if anyone has heard of this widget-esque thing called AlertThingy. Its nothing terrible innovative to be clear…its more or less an RSS reader specifically for your Friendfeed. That said, the main feature that I found pretty compelling is that it allows you to inject links, comments, etc.. directly into YOUR feed as well as respond to threaded conversations taking place on Twitter, YouTube, someones blog who your are following on Friendfeed, etc…
